Sin Eng Heong ~ Kaya Puff ~

There are a whole lot of merchandises're selling Ipoh local biscuit and other packaged crackers surrounding the popular Bean Sprout Chicken restaurant like "Lou Wong" and "Aun Kei". I will recommend you to visit a bakery shop that is famous for it's "fresh" baked Kaya Puff. where you can see long queue almost everyday in the afternoon.

Besides kaya puff there are also other of local baked biscuits (I don't know their names cause I love only the kaya puff lol) but one can identify which is the most popular in the bakery shop, the big baking tray which can be placed dozens of Kaya Puffs will almost run out just after a few customers and you can see how constantly the boss (I guess) changes the baking tray.

I have been here for a couple of times and every time the queue also extended to the entrance. So I will call it popular instead of coincidence. The fact is you have to wait for good food.

This is the Kaya Puff that I am writing about, you are advised to savor one immediately when it is still hot, make sure don't eat them in your cars because it's soft texture confirm you that with every bite crumbs will fall from the biscuit.

Their biscuits is running fast during weekends and public holidays, thus please give them a call before going, to avoid disappointment. Their biscuits should satisfy your cravings for some light refreshment.

Restaurant Rasa Sayang ~ Hai Nan Chicken Rice ~

Restaurant Rasa Sayang is a long established restaurant that specifically sell "Hannanese" chicken rice in the town of Ipoh. The restaurant is a combination of two shop lots and there is only one stall, the chicken rice stall.

Besides roast chicken and cooked chicken there are also some complementary Hainanese dishes available.
The mouth-watering chicken meat is chopped and sliced into pieces and is served with a plate of aromatic oil rice that composes the aroma of ginger and some seasoning.

The free soup has a very strong taste and smell of chicken. I dare to say that this bowl of chicken soup is cooked with "real chicken", the taste just differs from the ordinary chicken rice stalls where their soup is cooked with some almost identical seasoning that one can buys in grocery store.

This is a very important essence of this delicious chicken rice, the blended Ginger and perhaps with some garlic too (not sure). You are seriously advised to put this in your saucer.

Mix up the blended ginger and identical chicken rice chili sauce and add some soy sauce, it's just simply a good match to the chicken rice.

The Hainnanese Chicken Rice

It's not just roast chicken, it's a fusion of roast and cooked chicken, they call it "Yin Yeong Kei Fan"

Perak Cave

Ipoh is very famous for its caves, and temples in the cave, Perak Cave is the best of all the caves I guess. I guess it's because you can hike to the top of the hill where you can't in others. Perak Cave is a Buddha temple cave, as one can see Huge Buddha statues and lots of magnificent drawings of the goddesses and gods on the cave wall and so one can do chanting, prayers, and some "exercise", walking up the steep stone stairs case that leads to the top of the rocky hill. Its not too high and laborious for most, but definitely not an easy one.

The Stairs connecting to the hill top is only open for public from 9 am to 4 pm only

The Monkeys in the cave are rather tame, they don't approach and snatch visitors' possessions or ask for food.  I guess may be they have the teaching from Buddha or they just simply get used to visitors.

This is the best sight seeing point of the rocky hill. I don't post any photo about the scene from just because the cave is located beside an industrial area, nothing so cool about factories and smoke emitted from them and I think it is not high enough to to get a wider view of the city.

Ipoh Sin Yoon Loong Coffee Shop

Sin Yoon Long is one of the best known coffee shop in Old Town, Ipoh, where the famous white coffee is said to be originating from. It's said that the coffee tastes better in the morning, hot coffee. Besides coffee there are also other cuisines that one must try at the Coffee shop.

Talking about its coffee, white coffee, it may not be the favorite of every "Ipoh gias", but it is surely one of the best in the town especially in the morning. The white coffee is brewed with a traditional sieve, it is so aromatic that after you take a sip, the aroma of coffee is still lingering in your mouth, there is no sour taste that sometimes I can taste in some coffee. And one can even smell the strong aroma of coffee.

Usually I order caramel custard for my friend, an egg custard with sweet caramel served on a saucer. It is cold but not freeze, it is so soft yet set, as you shake the saucer slightly, you can see the whole custard shivers. A fantastic complement to the aromatic hot white coffee.

Talking bout complement to white coffee, how can I miss out toast bread with butter and kaya. He is using a device to toast the bread but I can't tell out he uses charcoal or it is electrical. But if toast bread is swept with butter instead of margarine, it usually tastes better. Take a piece and dunk it in the coffee is the way you should savor its taste.

For me, the noodle which the locals call "Liu Fen" in Sin Yoon Long is quite special than the rest may be its because the rich taste of the "pork fat" in the noodle sauce makes it so appetizing but when I clear up the plate I feel full.

I love all the Fish ball, Meat ball, Minced pork Ball that is served in a bowl of tasty soup. I believe that they  make it themselves and especially the minced pork ball ( the dark color one ) is so tasty and the texture is so chewy and firm but not too hard.

I don't have a picture of the stall but it is just positioned at the left of the shop front.

My favorite

The barbecue pork is also very famous here. During weekend or festive season, there will be a big crowd here and almost every table there are a plate of the chopped barbecue pork, you can tell whether it is good.
