Starbucks Drive-Thru @ Tanjong Tokong Penang

I believed there are many people who felt extremely excited to know the Starbucks Drive Thru at Penang has newly opened in Tanjong Tokong Penang. I like the environment there so much. Both inside and outside of their shop is equipped with tables and chairs. There are few sofas outside, and classical music is being played in the background make it a comfortable atmosphere for gathering or even study.

We ordered the new Hojicha Frapuccino. Well, the taste isn't that well *for me. It does have a strong fragrance of tea, but I felt it still lacks of something to make it nicer. Maybe personally I prefer coffee more than tea. I still prefer Caramel Frappucino and Hot chocolate. Both of these taste better with the pleasing aromatic coffee.

Some of the inner decoration

The counter and the waiters are still donning the Christmas Hat

Toh Soon Cafe 多春茶座

This is a simple yet full of traditional atmosphere coffee shop is located in a back lane in Campbell Street, George Town. They serve the classic "Nan Yang Breakfast" like toast (Roti Bakar with kaya and butter), Half- Boiled Egg, Coffee, Nasi Lemak, Curry Puff and so forth.

I have been there for few times, I felt it was just a normal coffee shop. While, I visited again yesterday with my boyfriend. And that was the very first time I felt that their toast and coffee were so nice. Seriously delicious. It is absolutely worthwhile to try. And this is a favorite cafe to many of my friends too.

Some shooting while waiting for the food.

1. Here the foods....
The Toast
1.The Toast, it is baked in a traditional way - with charcoal. The taste of charcoal baked toast is totally
different from the one from oven, it is crunchier and smell greater. In addition, the combination of aromatic Kaya and Butter is always the best match to "Roti Bakar".

The Coffee

ii) Cup of Coffee - It was too sweet for me. While it was just fine when I dunked in the toast and the " "sweetness" was just perfectly diluted.

Dip the toast in the Coffee

The half boiled egg
iii) The half boiled Egg - this is also another classic "Nan Yang style Breakfast" that I couldn't miss, adding some soy sauce and some peppers are must.

A complete set of "Nan Yang Style Breakfast" that customers normally dine here.

Another dish.
Normally they put few packs of Nasi Lemak on the table. You can take it yourself when you would like one.
The Nasi Lemak looks spicy where you can see all the Chili when first unwrap it. But, it is not too spicy. The Ikan Bilis are too salty for me, but the chili is quite nice. And I like the strong Pandan aroma on the rice.

Lastly I want to show how I usually eat the toast. Dip it inside the half boiled egg. Some may feel it is disgusting, but please believe me, it is just a perfect match. You can savor the whole essence of "Nan Yang Style Breakfast" in one time.

The perfect match

There are photos displayed on the wall showed the visitation of Pg Chief Minister before.
The first time I was here the service of the staffs were very rude. They were not friendly at all. I told myself I would not pay a visit again, who knew I came again.

However, after trying for a few times (well, was forced to, as my friends urged me to bring them there), I felt the attitude of the staffs becoming better. Maybe because of the service change and I felt the dishes are getting nicer as well.

The cafe is always crowded and most of the time we need to stand beside and wait for a vacant table.

It is quite hard to find parking here, if you’re driving, try to turn into Lorong Kampung Malabar (next to Campbell Street). It is easier to find parking over here and you just need to walk for less than 100m.

The Twelve Cups @ Beach Street Penang

I found another cafe selling crepe cake in Penang -->> The Twelve Cups.
It is strategically located at Jalan Pantai (Beach Street near to Bank Street, George Town )
I am pretty sure that many people are happy to hear about this.
Beach street where i took once at night

The twelve cups cafe

Last week, Shirlyn recommended us to come for a light tea break.

The Twelve Cups is a new cafe in Georgetown. The atmosphere here is warming and it is definitely a good place to hang out at noon. You can escape yourself from the scorching hot weather with a cup of coffee.

Next, our orders. Motcha Crepe Cake and Hokkaido Milk. I preferred the Motcha flavor as compare to the Hokkaido milk. But Shirlyn, preferred the Hokkaido milk. She claimed that she liked the heavier taste of the milk flavor
The texture of the crepe cakes are more or less same with the crepe cake in Nadeje, Humble Beginnings or Crepe Cake in Northam Beach Cafe. The mixture of the multi layer cake and cream distinguish it from the others. Where we can feel the multi-layer of the slices cakes in between the cream. As usual I like the way it melt and swim to stomach.

Motcha RM10.90

Hokkaido Milk RM10.90

There are a shelf displays quite a few unique collection which have made the environment more attractive. Below is a wall paint. I like it so much. It shows we should treat everyday a wholly new dawn, new day and new feeling and the most important is  | I am Feeling GOOD |~ for everyday

Stay tune, there was another best Surprise enriched our day.

In a sudden, the waiter approached us and served us an ice cream with espresso topping when we were about to finish our cakes. He told us that we were lucky to be the 12th customer of them on the day. Everyday, the 12th customer in their shop is entitled a free ice cream. It's was so great to us.
The mocha topping on the ice cream is filled with coffee fragrance. This is my favorite. I like the ice cream as well, it is as smooth as Mc Donald ice cream. It is less sweeter when the sweetness is diversified by the slightly bitter coffee.

This is the back door

This Trishaw displayed at the shop behind The Twelve Cups. I saw it when I went to the washing room located rights behind the Cafe. It wasn't so special, but I liked the antique feels of this photo.

West Garden 西公园 Penang ( See Kong Ooi)

The original sign board that is hang for 70 years

The restaurant stands for more than 70 years of business, from 1940s

See Kong Ooi is probably one the longest standing restaurants that has witnessed the growth and changes of Georgetown.

This restaurant is renowned for its traditional Chinese food

I can say that there are no fancy, but definitely traditionally delicious food
Dining here is akin to savouring my granny's cooking in my hometown
Probably because I have been eating too much of fast food and other stuff in the city
I will start to miss my home town cooking
Something these kinds of simple yet with "home town" taste whets my appetite better these days

The restaurant locates in Transfer road, just google map "Transfer road"
An old shop
Simple yet neat, nothing fancy

Check out some food that we ordered

Belacan Fried Chicken, the aroma is as good as other Balacan Fried Chicken, but the texture of the meat is better
This is the best, it really reminded of my mum cooking,  Steamed pork with salted fish
Kang Kung, it is always my favorite, take a spoon of rice with the sauce and kang kung, simply nice
A Menu for your reference
Another side of the Menu, the last one is "sweet and sour pork"
I heard that, the Curry fish or fish head and Sambal prawn are best, But we were not in good condition to take spicy food that night.
Should try them in the next time.

Nasi Beratur the Best Nasi Kandar in Penang

The long standing brand name since 1943

It's well known that Penang has very good Nasi Kandar

Nasi Kandar is just another masterpiece of Mamak of this cultural town
The best of the best Nasi Kandar in Penang is definitely "Nasi Beratur"
It is not hard to find it is just located beside the famous Kapitan Keling Mosque
lets check some photo of it

What a simple stall

"Beratur" means queue up, and this is what really happens every night here from 9 something

Another look at the "Nasi Kandar showcase"

A handsome guy is picking his dish, no worry, most of them can speak in English

You don't judge it by this messy look, their "Kuah Campur" is the best I have ever tasted, fragrance, aromatic, not too spicy

To me the "centerpiece" of a plate of awesome Nasi Kandar is the "Kuah Campur" or translated as "mixed sauces". This Beratur is simply just good at cooking delicious curry and sauce.

Just tell the guy "Kuah Campur", and with any dishes regardless, it will be a memorable taste of Penang

Beside fried chicken, there are also a range of other Mamak dishes like Mutton, Beef, Squid, Prawn etc etc. It's recommended to try fried chicken it is crispy and aromatic. And squid is not recommended, as it is too hard and the taste of the cooking isn't that nice, it cost RM6- RM10 per piece.
